Workers’ Day is celebrated around the world to commemorate the successful movement of workers demanding eight hours of work, eight hours of rest and eight hours of recreation on May 1, 1886 in Chicago, USA.

The workers gained this right through the struggles of the 17th century. In 1889, a meeting of world labor organizations and labor leaders held in Paris, the capital of France, decided to celebrate World Workers’ Day around the world. Since 1890, every year on May 1, Labor Day is celebrated around the world.
In 2007, Biratnagar in Nepal started to celebrate Workers’ May Day together with the labor movement. But since the year 2064, the government has officially started to give a public holiday on International Labor Day.
