The government has arranged for citizens from all over the country to apply for national identity cards even from Kathmandu. The government has designated five more locations within the valley to conduct the national identity card application and distribution process quickly.

According to the National Identity Card and Registration Department, 27 stations have been designated at five locations in the valley to speed up the application and distribution of the National Identity Card.

Applications can be made at District Administration Office Kathmandu and District Administration Office Lalitpur as well as at Narayanhiti Durbar Complex, National Auditorium and Central Office of the department located at Singha Durbar.

At the District administration office in Kathmandu (Jilla Prasasan Karyalaya) –
all the districts except Lalitpur and Bhaktapur of Bagmati province can apply for the service recipients of Parsa and Dhanush of Madhesh province.
At District Administration Office Lalitpur –
all the districts of Karnali Province and Sudurpaschim Province and the beneficiaries of Saptari and Sarlahi districts of Madhesh Province can apply.
In Narayanhiti Durbar Complex –
all the districts of Koshi, Lumbini and Gandaki Provinces and the beneficiaries of Sirha, Mahottari, Bara and Rauttah of Madhesh Province can apply.
In the National Identity Card and Registration Department premises –
The government of Nepal and subordinate employees, ex-employees and special officials can apply.
At the National Auditorium located at Exhibition Marg –
Employees’ families can apply.

Even though the application and delivery arrangements have been made from the valley for citizens across the country, the system of applying for national identity cards from all district administration offices and 42 locality administration offices across the country is still in place.

What qualifications are required to get a national identity card and what should be done to get it?
The following written qualifications are required to obtain a National Identity Card

16 years of age
Obtained Nepali citizenship certificate.
A person eligible to receive an identity card must submit an application in the prescribed format to the agency or officer designated by the National Identity Card and Registration Department.
When submitting an application, a person who wants to get an identity card or the body or official designated by the department must provide personal and biological details such as a digital photograph, a digital finger print lapchae print with a line of 10 fingers of both hands, signature, etc.
