Leading automobile companies have announced that they will stop producing petrol and diesel vehicles after 2030. In that case, Nepal also has no choice but to use electric vehicles. NEA officials say that the number of such charging stations should be significantly increased by that time.

While car manufacturers around the world are promoting electric vehicles, Nepal has recently taken two important decisions. First, the National Planning Commission procured electric vehicles for the first time at the government level.
Second, for the first time, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has started the process of setting up an electric ‘charging station’. NEA has brought the charging station in operation in Ratna Park of the capital in collaboration with Chinese company BYD Auto. BYD has already set up stations at four places.

Along with BYD, Kia Motors is also about to start charging stations. Kia is preparing to build charging stations for its customers in seven places including Pokhara, Lumbini, Narayanghat, Muglin, Dhulikhel, Kathmandu and Hetauda.
When buying a car, it takes 9 to 10 hours to charge the car with the charger provided by the company. The Kia’s DC charger at the station can be fully charged in 4 hours, while the AC charger can be 80 percent charged in half an hour.
Volvo, one of the world’s leading automobile companies, has said it will no longer produce petrol and diesel vehicles from 2019. Famous automobile companies like BMW, Toyota, Fiat, Kia, Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Honda, Renault, Nissan, Volkswagen, Mitsubishi and Sebro are also involved in making electric vehicles.
According to the Japan Times, there are more electric charging points in Japan than gas stations (petrol pumps). Last year, Japan had 40,000 electric car charging points and 34,000 gas stations, according to carmaker Nissan.
