The establishment of industrial districts in Nepal began in 2016 BS with the foundation laying of Balaju Industrial District by the Nepalese government in cooperation with the United States government. The objective of such districts is to provide the industrial sector with easy access to basic industrial infrastructure by bringing together land, buildings, access roads, electricity supply, water, drainage, and other facilities at one spot. Later, similar districts started coming up in other parts of the country in cooperation with various friendly counties. The idea was to bring about an economic balance among the different geographic regions, besides promoting the use of local resources like investment, labor, skills and raw materials for the country’s industrialization.
